From Then to Now

Rupam Dutta

There is no cliff, no edge to make us fall

There's only the distance

Between want and abandon

We were always only as close as our last goodbye

It's long; that walk from then to now

The questions remain the same

Only the answers keep changing

Moments collapsing

In all the pretty colors of ecstasy

Unfolding, frantic and impossibly certain

We never say it out loud; how long its been

But we still keep count

And everyday you keep hurting me

In a way

Neither of us fully understand.
