My night carnival

Bobita Phukan

Right outside my window,

the dense forest lies in all its glory.

Embracing the darkness of the night,

impervious of the city lights,

the moonbeams create waves of wonder.

I have befriended the starry skies.

And the twinkling starts wait for me

by the open window.

The mischievous young red star

winks and lures me.

Talks about adoring my long, black hair

with gleaming stars.

The old blue star gloomily says,

“I have spread luminance all through my life.

But now the end is near.”

Very soon he will be a 'supernova'

and illuminate for one last time!

A bright and shy loving star,

with eyes as anxious as the sea.

Reflects his gloom on not seeing me.

It smiles and jokes, amusing all night

Says he has his heart entrapped

by the two sparkling eyes,

by the window at night.

And with this the carnival of night,

sees its end by the twilight.
