POETRY FOR LIFE
Poetry can influence all generations. It inspires people as the poets speak intimately to the readers providing an insight into their minds, their ideas, love and hate. Poetry has the power to illuminate the life of the reader.
Northeast India, in its core, has been a cradle of tribal art, crafts and literature and lifestyle. A paradise that remains still unexplored, has during last few decades witnessed the rise of several talented poets who have managed to meet the challenges of identity and unity.
Music and poetry have a common root and stem from the same prehistoric source. Poetry was born together with music as manifested in the poetry and music of the Bard of Brahmaputra - Bhupen Hazarika. The Guwahati Grand Poetry Festival presents itself as a platform to poets of the region to voice their myriad concerns and emotions.
A much needed platform that celebrates the power of youth, giving them a voice, the festival would mainly represent young and budding poets.
The Guwahati Grand Poetry Festival is a humble attempt to celebrate the creative pursuit of the region’s talented poets and an occasion to salute the mystical world of their compositions.

Let’s not plant any seed other than seeds of compassion and love.”
There may not be any tangible yardstick to measure an entity’s love and reverence for one’s own land. However, a strong belief in the above quote by Rumi is perhaps a strong message for a layman’s deep yearning for peace and tranquility in this world of ours with thousand discords. The strong and the mighty are equipped with all sorts of weapons that money can buy but a peace-loving citizen can never be considered weak till he has a pen to wield and a sensitive mind to express that anguish. Our generation is perhaps very strategically placed in such a crossroad of sweeping changes where a discerning attitude and mindful existence can alone help us in holding to our ground beneath our feet.
In such a context some like-minded people came together with the concept of peace and brotherhood buzzing in their head till the answer was found in poetry and music. The reason is quite evident. The Northeast region of India, which has seen trouble and strife of all kinds and degrees is also equally rich in both folk traditions and modern styles of art, music and literature. The emotional nature of our populace along with our deep sensitivity mostly makes us vulnerable to negative and dark forces, which are always ready to engulf us in their designs for profit. The youth today, can see through all these and more, making it easy for us to channelize their zest and energy towards fruitful endeavours.
To reach out to communities and more specifically people having an interest in Northeast India's poetry, literature, art and culture, Guwahati Grand Poetry festival has engaged its Global Cultural Ambassadors from 10 July 2020. The Global Cultural Ambassadors are GGPF's point of contact in their respective countries of present residence through whom GGPF will be in touch with its followers and people wanting to contribute towards this platform
